Linux News Today: GTK+ 3.20 Toolkit Released Ahead of GNOME 3.20, Updates the HighContrast Theme

Posted on March 22, 2016 by Syauqi Wiryahasana

The highly anticipated GNOME 3.20 desktop environment is about to be released in a couple of days, and we can't help but notice that many of its core components and apps are being updated these days to version 3.20.0.

The popular, open-source, and cross-platform GTK+ GUI toolkit is among the first components to be updated for GNOME 3.20, due for release on March 23, 2016, and as usual, we've managed to get our hands on the internal changelog.

There are many new features implemented for the final 3.20 release of GTK+, except for the fact that it updates the HighContrast theme to be on par with the Adwaita one, which now boasts transitions to backdrop.

The release notes mention fifteen improvements to the HighContrast theme, which means that the GTK+ developers have tried hard to modernize it. In addition, they have also fixed various issues with many widgets for the Adwaita theme.

Other than that, GTK+ 3.20 updates a bunch of translations, fixes a handful of recently announced static analysis findings, and addresses an issue with the Nautilus file manager related to the fact that desktop windows are too small.

As expected, GTK+ 3.20 will be distributed as part of the GNOME 3.20 desktop environment starting this Wednesday, but you can download the sources right now from our website.
