Linux News Today: Mozilla Firefox 46.0 Now Available for Download with GTK3 Integration for Linux

Posted on April 26, 2016 by Syauqi Wiryahasana

Just a few moments ago, we discovered that Mozilla has uploaded the final version of the Firefox 46.0 web browser to its FTP servers, making them available for download for all supported platforms.

The Firefox 46.0 web browser is expected to be officially unveiled by Mozilla later today, April 26, 2016, finally bringing the GTK3 integration for the GNU/Linux platform, along with improved security of the JavaScript JIT (Just In Time) compiler and support for using the Content Decryption Module (CDM) as a fallback for decoding unencrypted H.264 and AAC streams.

Mozilla Firefox 46.0 appears to be a small release, one of the smallest we've see in a long time, at least according to the release notes that are currently available for the latest Beta version of the software (attached at the end of the article for reference), and among other changes it improves the stability and performance of the WebRTC API, support document.elementsFromPoint for HTML5, and adds HKDF support for the Web Crypto API.

For developers, Mozilla Firefox 46.0 can now display dominator trees in the Memory tool, adds garbage collection and allocation pause profiling in the Performance panel, as well as support for launching the responsive mode directly from the Style Editor @media sidebar. Download Mozilla Firefox 46.0 for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems right now via our website. Now if only Mozilla released Firefox 46.0 as a snap package for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.
