Arne Exton today informs Softpedia about the availability of a new build of his popular and free RaspEX Linux distribution based on the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system and engineered for Raspberry Pi 3 and 2 SBCs.
Last week, we reported on the release of RaspEX Build 160421, which rebased the system on the recently launched Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system, and introduced a brand-new kernel, support for Bluetooth, as well as the Mozilla Firefox web browser.
However, at that point in time, the developer was not able to install the open-source and cross-platform Kodi media center. It took him a week, and now he's proud to present a new build of RaspEX, version 160426, which includes Kodi 16.0, as well as the Fluxbox window manager.
"In RaspEX Build 160421, based on Ubuntu 16.04, I could not include Kodi (XBMC) Media Center without removing LXDE and many other programs. Now I’ve found a solution. I was able to install Kodi 16.0 alongside Fluxbox," said Arne Exton in the announcement. "A Desktop environment besides Kodi is needed so you can configure your wireless network and other stuff."

With the exception of the addition of Kodi 16.0 Media Center and Fluxbox WM, RaspEX Build 160426 contains pretty much the same package versions that were available in the previous version. Please note that the Fluxbox window manager replaces the LXDE desktop environment that was available in RaspEX Build 160421.
As mentioned before, RaspEX is based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, but it also borrows various technologies from the Debian GNU/Linux 8 "Jessie" and the Linaro Toolchain.
