Geary developer Michael Gratton today informed Softpedia about the immediate availability for download a new version of the email application designed for the GNOME 3 desktop environment.
Geary is well-known for being one of the most modern and easy-to-use email clients available for GNU/Linux operating systems, but it has been exactly nine months since Geary 0.10.0 was released, and many thought that the project is longer an active project because Yorba's retirement announcement back in November 2015.
And today, May 16, 2016, we have some very good new for users of the Geary email client, as version 0.11.0 is out bringing a few nice features, such as support for archiving special folders and the "is:read," "is:unread:" and "is:starred" search operators, and fixing many of the bugs reported by users since Geary 0.10.0.
"Just letting you know Geary 0.11.0 was just released. Reports of its demise have been greatly exaggerated," said Michael Gratton for Softpedia. "This new release has been a long time coming; thanks to all who contributed patches and translations. Special thanks to Adam Dingle for helping to revive development and to the team from Yorba for writing Geary in the first place."
Cyrus support has been improved, bugs were fixed
Other changes implemented in Geary 0.11.0 include better support for Cyrus and other similar servers when the network in unreliable, updated .deb module dependencies for Debian and Ubuntu distributions, better placement of Composer's 'Detach' button, as well as multiple documentation improvements.
A workaround for some crashes caused by the WebKitGTK+ 2.4.10 full-featured port of the WebKit rendering engine was added as well, along with fixes for UI freezes that occurred when network connections were lost, a crash that occurred during searching, and an issue with images not being displayed in some HTML messages.
Geary 0.11.0 also enables the use of a custom FTS3 tokenizer in SQLite 3.12 and later, adds support for using more than the "to:" and "from:" search operators, and addresses an issue with the main window being empty when opened from the notification. Last but not least, numerous UI and documentation translations have been updated.
