Linux News Today: Linux Kernel 4.1.25 LTS Improves the OCFS2 Shared-Disk Cluster File System

Posted on May 25, 2016 by Syauqi Wiryahasana

We reported earlier today, May 24, 2016, that Linux kernel developer Jiri Slaby announced the release of Linux kernel 3.12.60 LTS, and now another developer has released new maintenance builds of the long-term supported Linux 4.1 and 3.18 kernel branches.

Sasha Levin has published details about the twenty-fifth point release for the Linux 4.1 kernel. This brings various small improvements to the ARM, PA-RISC, PowerPC (PPC), and x86 hardware architectures, various enhancements to the OCFS2 general-purpose shared-disk cluster file system, along with a small fix for the ISOFS file system and updates to the sound stack with better sound drivers.

"I'm announcing the release of the 4.1.25 kernel. All users of the 4.1 kernel series must upgrade," says Sasha Levin. "The updated 4.1.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-4.1.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

The Radeon and Intel i915 graphics drivers have been updated

Also new in Linux kernel 4.1.25 LTS are updated versions of the Radeon and Intel i915 graphics drivers, along with improvements to many other drivers included in the Linux 4.1 kernel series. Among them, we can mention those for things like InfiniBand, EDAC, ATA, ACPI, CpuIdle, EFI, HV, iiO, USB, and networking (mostly Wireless drivers). Of course, the usual crypto, mm, and core kernel enhancements are also present.

If you are using a GNU/Linux operating system powered by a kernel from the long-term supported Linux 4.1 kernel series, you are urged to update as soon as possible to version 4.1.25, which should be available in the main software repositories of your distribution in the coming days. Alternatively, you can download the Linux kernel 4.1.25 LTS sources right now via our website or directly from kernel.org.
