Linux News Today: Manjaro Linux 16.06 "Daniella" RC1 Gets First Update with Latest ZFS on Linux

Posted on May 23, 2016 by Syauqi Wiryahasana

It did not even hit the stable channel, and the upcoming Manjaro Linux 16.06 "Daniella" operating system has received its first update pack, for the Release Candidate build.

Yes, you're reading it right, Manjaro Linux 16.06 RC1 got its first update pack, which brings the Release Candidate version of the highly anticipated Pamac 4.1 graphical package manager, featuring an updated user interface that promises to fit your needs, as well as fixes for most of the bugs reported by users.

Early adopters who have already jump ship to the Manjaro Linux 16.06 "Daniella" operating system, will be able to take Pamac 4.1 Release Candidate for a test drive by installing the pamac-dev package, which re-enables support for double-clicking on a package to view its details and integrates the terminal view and progress bar.

"It is always good to check for updated packages, even we don’t notify you about them. As usual, people using our testing branch will help us to get snaps over to our stable branch almost smoothly," said Philip Müller on behalf of the Manjaro Development Team.

ZFS on Linux 0.6.5.7, Linux kernel 4.6, Thunderbird 45.1, and more

Among other goodies that users of Manjaro Linux 16.06 "Daniella" RC1 will get if they install this first update pack, are the latest ZFS on Linux 0.6.5.7 native Z File System implementation for GNU/Linux systems, the recently released Linux 4.6 kernel, as well as the Mozilla Thunderbird 45.1 email and news client.

Moreover, all the supported Linux kernel packages have been updated to their latest point releases, and Manjaro Linux 16.06 RC1 now supports the Linux 3.10.101 LTS, Linux 3.12.59 LTS, Linux 3.14.70 LTS, Linux 3.16.35 LTS, Linux 3.18.33 LTS, Linux 3.19.8.21, Linux 4.1.24 LTS, Linux 4.2.8.10, Linux 4.4.11 LTS, and Linux 4.5.5 kernels.

Last but not least, it looks like the Deepin desktop environment has been refreshed with many new and attractive features, and, of course, the software repositories have been rebased on the upstream Arch Linux ones as of May 20, 2016, bringing the latest package updates and security fixes. Please update as soon as possible!
