SparkyLinux 4.3 "Tyche" was officially launched last week with the KDE, MATE, Xfce, LXDE, and LXQt flavors, and now the team behind this lightweight Debian-based desktop-oriented operating system announced the release of three more editions.
SparkyLinux 4.3 GameOver, Multimedia, and Rescue editions are now available for download, as officially announced by the project's maintainer a few minutes ago, May 6, 2016, incorporating all the core components that have been made available in the previous flavors.
"There are three SparkyLinux 4.3 special editions available now: GameOver, Rescue, and Multimedia," reads today's announcement. "This release is based on SparkyLinux 4.3 and is fully compatible with Debian Testing “Stretch”."
What's new in SparkyLinux 4.3 GameOver, Multimedia, and Rescue
Targeted to gamers, SparkyLinux 4.3 GameOver Edition features the lightweight LXDE desktop environment and comes pre-installed with a huge number of games, as well as various useful tools and scripts. As expected, the SparkyLinux 4.3 Multimedia Edition features a very large number of apps for graphics, audio, and video work.
On the other hand, the SparkyLinux 4.3 Rescue Edition is completely different, as it's not actually an operating system per se, but a Live system designed from the offset to provide system administrators with all the tools they need to scan and fix broken partitions and OSes on disk drives.
Under the hood, all three editions are powered by Linux kernel 4.5.1 (a specially crafted Linux 4.5.3 kernel is also live in the SparkyLinux “unstable” repository), include all the updates released upstream as of May 3, 2016, and use the Mozilla Firefox web browser instead of Iceweasel.
