4MLinux developer Zbigniew Konojacki informs Softpedia today, August 15, 2016, about the availability of the first public Beta release of the upcoming 4MParted distrolette people can use to partition disk drives independent of a computer OS.
This is the first and only Beta (a.k.a. development build) of 4MParted 19.0, and it looks like it's completely based on the 4MLinux 19.0 operating system, which is also in heavy development these days with a public Beta version out the door a few weeks back. Now testers can also get their hands on the 4MParted 19.0 Beta Live CD.
"4MParted is a very small live CD designed for disk partitioning. It's a part of 4MRescueKit, which in turn is one of the three main 4MLinux releases available for download," says Zbigniew Konojacki in the release announcement. "This version includes GParted 0.26.1 and it uses 4MLinux 19.0 as the base system."
Yes, that's right, the key component of the 4MParted 19.0 Live CD is the famous, open-source GParted partition editor software. Version 0.26.1 is present in this Beta release of 4MParted 19.0, a release that ensures creation of 32-bit EXT4 disk partitions when the size is less than 16 TeraBytes, and also improves the compatibility with existing bootloaders.
4MParted 19.0 Beta now available for testing
According to Mr. Konojacki, 4MParted 19.0 will go stable in about two or three weeks from today's announcement. Again, please note that this is not an actual operating system you can install and use on your PC, but a Live ISO image that you can boot on any PC, no matter the OS installed, to partition almost any type of file system known.
4MParted 19.0 Beta is available for download right now via our website, where it's being distributed for free as a single, live, and bootable ISO image you can write on either a CD disc or USB flash drive. However, please note that this is still a beta quality software, so we recommend that you wait for the final release before using it in production environments.
