The developers of the open-source and cross-platform MPV video player software have announced the release of version 0.19.0, a new maintenance update that adds a few new features, options, and commands, and fixes lots of bugs.
MPV 0.19.0 is here five weeks after the release of MPV 0.18.1 to improve the build system with and new “–htmldir” option, implement atomics support as a mandatory requirement, as well as to modify the wscript to add proper unversioned SONAME for the Android mobile platform.
New features include a stream_cb API (Applications Programming Interface) that can be used for user-defined stream implementations, a video processor selection to the vf_d3d11vpp component, and a “–hwdec=videotoolbox-copy” option to the videotoolbox command, enabling hardware accelerated decoding with video filters.
Moreover, a tscale=linear direct implementation was added in the vo_opengl component. It also looks like the delay audio filter has been removed, and new commands are present, such as “–audio-stream-silence”, “–audio-wait-open” and “–no-autoload-files” to the player, vp9 support to “–hwdec-codecs” and yuv420p support to “–videotoolbox-format.”
MPV works much better on the Wayland display server
