Posted on August 18, 2016 by Syauqi Wiryahasana

It appears that the new Shotwell maintainer is doing a great job in keeping the powerful open-source image viewer and organizer up to date with the latest GNU/Linux technologies and also patching bugs reported by users since previous releases.

Today, we're happy to inform our readers about the release of Shotwell 0.23.5, the latest stable version of the open source software, which, according to the internal changelog attached at the end of the article, brings quite some improvements, lots of updated translations, and many bugfixes.

There are also a handful of new features implemented in the Shotwell 0.23.5 release, such as the ability to filter images by saved search, or the reimplementation of the "--disable-extra-plugins" configuration option that lets users disable extra plugins. Additionally, the PhotoTable component received new SQL indexes.

Shotwell 0.23.5 now available for all GNU/Linux distros

Among other noteworthy changes implemented in Shotwell 0.23.5, we can mention that there's now support for hiding the bottom toolbar if you don't want to see it, the creation of the .desktop file has been fixed, linked tags are now supported, and plugins are now explicitly linked to their dependencies.

If you're curious to know what else was changed in Shotwell 0.23.5, we suggest studying the changelog below. In the meantime, we recommend that you update to Shotwell 0.23.5 as soon as possible, or more precisely as soon as the updated version lands in the main software repositories of your GNU/Linux operating system.

Of course, you can also download the Shotwell 0.23.5 sources right now via our website and compile the software yourself for your distribution and hardware architecture. As usual, this release couldn't be possible without the awesome contributions from various developers and open source hackers.
