The Document Foundation, through Italo Vignoli, had the great pleasure of announcing that the first bug hunting session for the upcoming LibreOffice 5.1 office suite will take place between October 30 – November 1, 2015.
Now that the third maintenance release of LibreOffice 5.0 landed, the time has come for the LibreOffice community to concentrate their efforts on the next major release of the best open source office suite available for GNU/Linux operating systems.
The final release of LibreOffice 5.1 is planned for early February 2016, but a first Alpha build will be available for download and testing during the bug hunting session announced for the end of the month. “On those dates, mentors will be available from 08AM UTC to 10PM UTC to help less experienced volunteers to triage bugs, on the QA IRC channel and via email on the QA mailing list,” said Italo Vignoli. “Those who cannot join during the bug hunting session are always welcome to help chasing bugs and regressions when they have time.”
During these bug hunting sessions, which will last three long days, between Friday, October 30 and Sunday, November 1, 2015, the LibreOffice developers and contributors will focus on implementing new features, as well as fixing nasty bugs and regressions.
LibreOffice 5.1 Release Candidate 1 arrives in December 2015
In December 2015, the Document Foundation will organize a second bug hunting session, during which developers and public users will be able to get their hands on the LibreOffice 5.1 Release Candidate 1 (RC1) release.
In the meantime, we will take this opportunity to inform you that the LibreOffice 4.4 branch will reach end of life on November 18, 2015, and LibreOffice 5.0 will continue to receive three additional maintenance releases until May 29, 2016, when it will also reach end of life.
