Linux News Today: Vivaldi Web Browser Gets Its First Beta Candidate Release

Ruarí Ødegaard from the Vivaldi team has had the pleasure of announcing the release and immediate availability for download and testing of a new snapshot build of the upcoming cross-platform web browser.

As we reported last week, the Vivaldi web browser is getting closer and closer to its first Beta release. Therefore, today we inform you that Vivaldi Snapshot 1.0.303.32 has been released, and it is dubbed the Release Candidate build of the first Beta build of the proprietary web browser.

According to the developers, the new Vivaldi snapshot is technically a Beta build, but some issues are still present, and they’ve hesitated to call it a Beta. However, once these issues are patched, this snapshot build will be repackaged and released as the first Vivaldi Beta.

“We are very close to moving on to the next quality level. Today’s snapshot is not technically a beta but… we are very close,” said Ruarí Ødegaard. “This snapshot is a ‘candidate’ for a beta release. This means it should contain enough fixes to be labelled beta quality.”

What’s new in Vivaldi Snapshot 1.0.303.32

Among the new features implemented in Vivaldi Snapshot 1.0.303.32, we can mention the re-implementation of the missing tab thumbnails, the addition of dark address bar icons for the Dark User Interface of the web browser, as well as support for loading pages in the “Specific URLs” startup option or firstrun page.

Moreover, the Down key can now be used to display search engines while in the search filed and Shift+Down to display typed history, some options of the Note’s context menu have been removed because they were no longer needed, and the transition of dragging and dropping of tabs has been greatly improved.

Last but not least, it is now possible to change the URL in the Settings page in a tab when switching back tabs.
