Now that most of you have downloaded and installed the latest release of the Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” operating system, with either Cinnamon or MATE desktop environments, it’s time to look forward to the other editions.
Yes, that’s right, we’re talking about the Linux Mint 18 KDE and Xfce editions, which project leader Clement Lefebvre reveals in his latest Linux Mint monthly newsletter that they are top priority of the month of July, now that the work on Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon and MATE flavors is finished.
Best of all, it looks like the Linux Mint team is hard at work on enabling the upgrade path for users who would like to upgrade their Linux Mint 17.3 installations to the new Linux Mint 18 operating system. Clement Lefebvre promises that the Linux Mint 17.3 upgrade path will be live in July as well.
“The Cinnamon and MATE editions of Linux Mint 18 will be announced this week. They successfully passed QA (quality testing) yesterday,” said Clement Lefebvre.”In July, we’ll be focusing on the upgrade path from Linux Mint 17.3 as well as the Xfce and Plasma desktops. We’ll have more news about these after the release.”
Linux Mint 18.1 to introduce more goodies
In the same announcement, the Linux Mint leader reveals the fact that he and his team of skillful developers have gathered new ideas for the popular, Ubuntu-based operating system used by hundreds of thousands of computer users around the globe, and they will all be implemented in the next release, Linux Mint 18.1, coming later this year.
