Posted on January 22, 2016 by Syauqi Wiryahasana

We reported earlier that the GNOME Project developers managed to release the fourth milestone towards the upcoming GNOME 3.20 desktop environment, which means that more and more core components and apps were updated too.

In this article, we would like to will share with our GNOME users the latest features that have been implemented in the GNOME Maps 3.19.4 maps application, which is currently distributed as part of the GNOME 3.19.4 desktop environment released earlier today.

"First release of the year, and what a release! We have so many new contributors, it really warms your heart. And a lot of new stuff added, see below for details," said the GNOME Maps developers in the internal changelog, which we've attached at the end of the article for reference.

Therefore, among the changes added in GNOME Maps 3.19.4, we can mention the addition of a new keyboard shortcuts overlay (press the F1 key to activate it), roundabout support to route, the addition of a standard GtkButton for marking favorite maps, as well as the ability to export markers.

Additionally, the new milestone towards GNOME Maps 3.20 adds a keyboard shortcut that lets users navigate to the current location (< Primary > + L), implements a graphical user interface for loading and administer shape layers like GeoJSON, or KML if there will be support for it in the future, and lets users export markers to PNG.

Bugixes and updated translations

Several bugs have been fixed in GNOME Maps 3.19.4, such as an issue with the login into your OpenStreetMap account, a problem with the layout of the OpenStreetMap editor, another OpenStreetMap authentication bug, this time related to wrong credentials, and issues with the zoom behavior and drag-and-drop functionality.

Last but not least, the Spanish, Lithuanian, Brazilian Portuguese, Esperanto, Slovak, Norwegian bokmål, Finnish, Czech, Kazakh, and German language translations have been updated. You can download GNOME Maps 3.19.4 right now from our website, but please try to keep in mind that it's a pre-release build, not suitable for production use.
