Today, July 4, 2016, ex-Kubuntu leader Jonathan Riddell announced that the KDE Plasma Wayland image received yet another update, bringing users the latest KDE and GNU/Linux technologies.
What’s new in the updated KDE Plasma Wayland images? Well, first of all, it looks like these are the first ISOs to be built on the KDE Neon infrastructure, which means that it comes with the latest KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment, KDE Applications, and KDE Framework packages from the Git master branch.
Second of all, it is now possible to backspace in the Konsole terminal emulator (see the attached screenshot for details). In the meantime, it appears that Jonathan Riddell and his team of developers are working hard to bring even more newer technologies, such as the Qt 5.7 GUI toolkit.
“It’s time to check in on the Plasma Wayland image for an update. Built on Neon infrastructure, this comes with the latest from KDE Git master for crack of the day fun,” said Jonathan Riddell in today’s announcement. “Actually, it’s from the end of last week because we paused updates while we add Qt 5.7, but it’s close enough.”
Some bugs are still present, but things are working well
Some bugs are still present in this new ISO refresh of the KDE Plasma Wayland image, such as the annoying blue colored window header, which appears and disappears randomly. Until a new ISO image will be generated, you can download today’s KDE Plasma Wayland image and take it for a test drive.
For those of you not in the known, we inform them that these KDE Plasma Wayland image feature a full-fledged KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment on the next-generation Wayland display server that will soon become the norm for numerous GNU/Linux operating systems, replacing the old X.Org (X11).
