VirtualBox, a virtualization solutions that allows users to run and install operating systems inside other operating systems, has been updated to version 5.0.4 and is now ready for download.
Oracle’s VirtualBox is probably the best application of its kind, and there are quite a few available for Linux users. There are very few things that VirtualBox can’t load or run, and the list of fixes is usually quite long. It’s a good chance that if something doesn’t work with the current version, it will work after the next update.
It’s worth noting that a large part of the changelog is dedicated to other operating systems since this is a multiplatform application, so not everything in that huge list of fixes applies. On the other hand, stuff like the fix for Linux kernel 4.2 is quite clear, and we know why it’s there/ In fact, Linux kernel compatibility is very important since the app uses specific kernel modules.
VirtualBox 5.0.4 is an interesting release
According to the changelog, another pre-defined guest screen resolution has been added, the update check, which was broken due to changing the location of the root certificates, has been repaired, several seamless fixes for certain X11 window managers have been implemented, a fix for certain graphics modes has been added, and a path separator issue has been corrected.
Also, a broken Guest Control stdout/stderr output has been fixed (a regression from the 5.x release), a fix has been added for Linux kernel 4.2, the application no longer crashes on older Linux distributions if the DBus service isn’t running, VirtualBox is now forgiving if the compilation of the vboxvideo module fails, and a number of small issues with dynamic resizing and full-screen and seamless modes have been corrected as well.
