Just a few moments ago, Kovid Goyal had the great pleasure of announcing the release and immediate availability for download of Calibre 2.42 for all supported operating systems.
According to the release notes, Calibre 2.42 is a quite interesting maintenance release of the world’s most popular free ebook library management software that lets users organize, convert, and read ebooks on their personal computers.
Prominent features of Calibre 2.42 include a driver for the new NookGlowlight Plus ebook reader, which, unfortunately, only allows users to send ebook files inside the NOOK folder.
Moreover, the conversion of AZW4 files to PDF documents was improved with the ability to skip the actual conversion operation and unwrap the PDF file that is embedded inside the AZW4 ebook.
A new option was added to the Metadata Download Review dialog, allowing users to mark rejected ebooks once their reviewing process is complete, and there’s now a new button in Edit Book’s Spell Check dialog that lets users undo the last spelling change.
Bugs were fixed, news sources improved
In addition to the new features mentioned above, Calibre 2.42 fixes a few bugs reported by users since the previous release of the software, such as the pre-selection of filename in the Edit Book File List, and a regression related to the detection of cover images for EPUB files.
Additionally, the software will no longer generate the author sort fields during downloading of metadata while the download of authors options is disabled in the Edit Metadata dialog, and an issue in the Tag mapper was fixed.
Last but not least, the Pocket, NRC, Sueddeutsche.de, as well as several Polish news sources have been improved.
