The Document Foundation has released the second Release Candidate for LibreOffice 5.0.2, the upcoming maintenance version for the 5.0 branch of the office suite.
The previous RC for 5.0.2 was a big version, and it brought a lot of fixes, including some important ones for DOCX files. Since this is a maintenance version, users should not expect to see any new features. Usually, developers take this time to fix all the issues that have been identified by the community and other devs. It’s a lot of work, but it ensures that LibreOffice provides the best possible experience and that that can only be done with constant support.
LibreOffice 5.0 is by far the biggest update release so far, and it looks like the developers still have a lot of stuff left to implement. A while back, we presented a Wiki entry put together by the team that shows what the differences between LibreOffice and Microsoft Office are and that they still have some things to add, not to mention the fact that the people from The Document Foundation are working on their own features as well.
LibreOffice 5.0.2 RC2 is ready for testing
Each new RC brings us closer to the stable version, and it’s easy to tell if they are getting nearer. Fewer entries in the changelog mean that they are almost done with the work.
According to the changelog, a file in a mounted WebDAV drive no longer asks LibreOffice for username and password, the Writer no longer fails to open the correct ODT file from the WebDAV share, Writer text table rows can now be resized, the zoom slider no longer disappears, the blinking cursor is no longer drawn directly, a fill scaling issue has been fixed, and some 3D OpenGL transitions now work in GL mode.
You can download LibreOffice 5.0.2 RC2 right now from Softpedia. Please keep in mind that it’s a development version, and it’s not meant for production machines.
