Now that the Release Candidate of the forthcoming openSUSE Leap 42.1 GNU/Linux operating system was made available for download and testing during the last two weeks, the time has come to take a look at Leap’s most prominent features.
As noted in other articles written on Softpedia during the development cycle of openSUSE Leap 42.1, users should not expect the most awesome of things from this new version of the openSUSE Linux operating system. For bleeding-edge stuff, you should get on board the openSUSE Tumbleweed rolling release.
Douglas DeMaio wrote a very nice preview of what’s to be expected from openSUSE Leap 42.1 when the final version of the Linux kernel-based operating system is unveiled next week, during the SUSECon event that will take place in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Europe, between November 2 and 6, 2015, at Beurs van Berlage.
“The wait is almost over to download openSUSE Leap 42.1. Next week users worldwide will be able to enjoy the power and stability of openSUSE’s newest release when it is unveiled at SUSECon in Amsterdam on Nov. 4. Until then, here is a preview of the features in Leap,” said Douglas DeMaio.
Highlights of openSUSE Leap 42.1
Prominent features of openSUSE Leap 42.1 include KDE Plasma 5.4.2 as the default desktop environment, the integration of the GNOME 3.16 desktop environment, numerous improvements, modules, and various other under-the-hood changed to YaST, among which a new user interface and centralized user authentication on the system in the revamped Authentication Client Configuration (ACC) module.
Moreover, YaST now seamlessly integrate with many state-of-the-art services used in user enterprise environments, including the well-known LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol), Microsoft Active Directory, Kerberos, and FreeIPA. Also, the network modules have received many improvements and are now more stable then in openSUSE 13.2. openSUSE Leap 42.1 will launch on November 4, 2015.
