Just a few moments ago, Patrick d’Emmabuntus informed Softpedia about the availability of the second maintenance release of his educational-oriented Emmabuntus 3 GNU/Linux operating system.
According to Mr. d’Emmabuntus, the Emmabuntus 3 1.02 release is now based on Canonical’s latest long-term supported Xubuntu 14.04.3 (Trusty Tahr) operating system, which is built around the lightweight Xfce 4.12 desktop environment, updates various add-ons for the pre-installed Mozilla Firefox and Chromium web browsers, as well as for the Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, and adds various updated applications.
“This distribution was originally designed to facilitate the reconditioning of computers given to humanitarian organizations, especially Emmaüs communities (which is where the distribution’s name obviously comes from), and to promote the discovery of GNU/Linux by beginners, as well as to extend the lifespan of hardware to reduce the overconsumption of raw materials,” says Patrick d’Emmabuntus.
Support for Abobe Flash 19 arrives
The Emmabuntus 3 1.02 release comes with the Language Tools 3.0 extension for the LibreOffice office suite, updates HPLIP (HP Linux Imaging and Printing) to version 3.15.7, updates the radio list of the RadioTray application, replaces the AdBlock Plus add-on with the lightweight uBlock Origin one, and updates the Kiwix Wikipedia app to version 0.9.
Last but not least, the Adobe Flash Player plugin has been removed from Mozilla Firefox and the Pipelight Flash was installed instead in order to offer users support for the latest Adobe Flash 19 plugin. The Picasa image viewer app was updated to version 3.9.140, Qwant is now the default search engine, the hibernation functionality has been fixed and works as expected, and the wallpaper management now displays full sets of wallpapers.
