The second major update for Manjaro 15.09 (Bellatrix) has been released, bringing some important updates and a wave of new supported Linux kernels for the new distribution.
The latest and most advanced branch of Manjaro has been released just last week, and it already received a couple of update packs. Developers have been quick to push all the latest packages to the OS, and they seem to be on an accelerated schedule. In the past few months, the Manjaro distros have received a lot of support and a ton of new packages, much more than the previous versions. This is not a bad thing at all, and it just underlines the team's efforts to make this a top OS.
Manjaro is a Linux distribution based on Arch Linux, but it's not following the same kind of release model. From time to time, the Manjaro team pushes a new major version out the door and they are using some of their own tools, like the installer, which is a great help if you want to use something like Arch Linux, but you don't have the time or inclination to install it.
What's new for Manjaro 15.09
This is not a huge update and users shouldn't expect too much from it, but new packages are usually a good thing. In this case, the biggest change seems to be the addition of the new KDE Plasma 5.4.2, but other users might get excited about other stuff.
"We are happy to announce our second update for Manjaro 15.09 (Bellatrix)! With this we repacked most of our packages against python 3.5. Please check if we have missed some. LibreOffice Fresh is now at 5.0.2, Plasma at 5.4.2. Also some of our kernels got updated: 3.12.49, 3.16.7.18, 3.18.22, 4.1.10, 4.2.3 and 4.3rc4. We updated pamac to 2.4.2, octopi to 0.7.4 and fixed some squashfs compression issue in our manjaro-tools for lower kernels than 4.0. Also we ship the usual Archlinux upstream fixes (Wed Oct 7 07:36:09 CEST 2015)," is noted in the announcement.
The supported Linux kernels right now are the following: 3.10.90, 3.12.48, 3.13.11.27, 3.14.54, 3.16.7.18, 3.18.22, 3.19.8.7, 4.1.10, 4.2.3, and 4.3 RC4. You can download Manjaro 15.09 (Bellatrix) right now from Softpedia and give it a spin.
