The guys over Netrunner, an open-source GNU/Linux computer operating system that uses a rolling-release model and it is based on the KDE technologies, were more than happy to announce today, October 3, the release of Netrunner Rolling 2015.09.
The September-October release of the Netrunner Rolling distribution comes with amazing news for fans of the modern KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment, as the Netrunner developers managed to migrate from the old KDE4 desktop to the latest KDE Plasma 5.4.1 interface, along with the KDE Applications 15.08.1 software suite.
Moreover, the latest Calamares distribution independent installer has been added to Netrunner Rolling as the default installer, the LibreOffice 5.0 office suite, and Oracle VirtualBox 5.0 virtualization software have been added as well, and many of those annoying bugs reported by users since the previous release have been plugged.
“The Netrunner Team is proud to announce the release of Netrunner Rolling 2015.09 – 64bit. Netrunner Rolling 2015.09 has gotten a complete overhaul. The desktop transitioned from KDE4 to Plasma5 together with KDE Applications 15.08 and hundreds of packages updated to their latest versions,” reads the announcement.

Powered by the recently announced Linux 4.1.9 long-term supported kernel packages, Netrunner Rolling 2015.09 includes many other up-to-date applications and core components, among which we can mention KDE Frameworks 5.14.0, Qt 5.5, Kontact 5, Cheese 3.16 webcam viewer, VLC Media Player 2.2.1, Mozilla Firefox 41.0 web browser, and Mozilla Thunderbird 38.3.0 email and news client.
Last but not least, the Gmusicbrowser audio player software has been updated to version 1.15 and received a great number of optimizations for loading and displaying huge music collections faster and more efficient than ever, as well as to automatically add album covers from the Internet.
