Stefano Stabellini of the Xen project has informed us today, on October 5, that the Xen open-source hypervisor is now available for CentOS 7 for ARM64 (AArch64) Linux operating systems.
According to Mr. Stabellini, the availability of the Xen hypervisor in the latest builds of the CentOS 7 Linux operating system, an open-source, server-oriented Linux kernel-based OS derived from the freely distributed sources of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) distribution, was publicly announced by Jim Perrin of the CentOS project last week during the Linaro Connect SFO15 event that took place in Burlingame.
Since then, Stefano Stabellini, George Dunlap and Jim Perrin have joined forces to produce high-quality Xen binaries for the ARM64 (AArch64) version of the popular CentOS 7 Linux operating system. The result of their work was the ability to set up an ARM64 virtualization host just by running a few YUM commands in the terminal emulator.
“A little more than a week ago at Linaro Connect SFO15 in Burlingame Jim Perrin of the CentOS project publicly announced the availability of the Xen hypervisor in CentOS 7 for ARM64 (also known as aarch64),” says Stefano Stabellini. “Jim and I have been working closely with George Dunlap, maintainer of Xen in CentOS for the x86 architecture, to produce high-quality Xen binaries for 64-bit ARM servers.”
Here’s how to install Xen and Libvirt on a CentOS 7 for ARM64 servers
Those of you who want to install the Xen open-source hypervisor and the Libvirt virtualization library in their CentOS 7 for ARM64 servers need to first download the CentOS 7 ISO images for the AArch64 (64-bit ARM) hardware architecture, install the operating system, and then run the following commands in the Terminal app.
yum install centos-release-xen
yum update
yum install xen libvirt

The developer ensures all users of the CentOS 7 for ARM64 operating systems that they will keep the Xen packages updated at all times. The Xen 4.6 release will also arrive in the default software repositories of the distribution.
