We’re back with details about the upcoming Ubuntu Touch OTA-8 software update, as well as some initial information about the next update, the OTA-9, as Canonical’s Łukasz Zemczak sent in his daily report a few minutes ago.
According to Mr. Zemczak, and as we had already reported the other day, the Ubuntu Touch developers are working around the clock to prepare the final touches for the OTA-8 software update, which should arrive for all supported Ubuntu Phone devices next week, on November 18, 2015.
We’ve said above on November 18 because Mr. Zemczak now informs us that the OTA-8 update might be delayed a day or two due to some bugs that need to be fixed before it is sent to users worldwide. However, the good news is that the first Release Candidate image has been generated and it’s available for testing in the rc channel.
“I’m back again with your daily e-mails after being unavailable for the last 3 days. Let’s try to get you up to date with the current OTA-8 status,” says Łukasz Zemczak. “We are still waiting for bug LP: #1515356 to be fixed before we’re ready for release, but QA is using this time to check for any other regressions on our images.”
OTA-9 is open for business
To not waste any time, the team announced that OTA-9 is now open for business, which means that Ubuntu Touch developers can start sending patches and fixes, as well as to land new features. The rc-proposed channel will remain open for all future OTA landings from now on, while the Release Candidate image will be tested in the rc channel.
The OTA image tagging live feature will also be tested by the Ubuntu Touch team in production during the coming weeks. Tomorrow we should have more details about the fixes that are needed for the Ubuntu Touch OTA-8 Release Candidate images to be tested, and then we will return next week with more information as it becomes available.
