We have been informed by the developers of the Escuelas Linux operating system about the release and immediate availability for download of Escuelas Linux 4.1.
Escuelas Linux 4.1 comes after a month of hard work and brings with it all sorts of goodies, among which we can mention the LibreOffice 5.0.2 office suite, Mozilla Firefox 41.0 web browser, Google Chrome 45.0.2454 web browser, as well as the latest version of the Geogebra application, which now includes even more mathematical functions.
Escuelas Linux 4.1 also comes with the Semantik software, an open-source and free mind-mapping app, which has been added to complement the CmapTools utility, an app that lets users create conceptual maps. Best of all, the distribution drops the Enlightenment desktop environment for Bodhi Linux’s Moksha desktop, a fork of the old Enlightenment E17 interface.
“It’s been a month since the release of Escuelas Linux 4.0, a major release that introduced big changes: 99% of its components are brand new. However, after the revolution that brought these changes, it’s time to stabilize our distribution in its new apps, libraries and configurations,” say the developers in the email announcement.
Many issues have been resolved
As expected from any new release of an open-source software or GNU/Linux distribution, many issues have been resolved. Therefore, we can report that Escuelas Linux 4.1 repairs the broken iTalc server configuration, which required extra procedures that are now no longer needed, and the startup process of the GCompris educational suite has been greatly improved.
Additionally, the distribution comes now with an updated Install Manual that includes new procedures and possible scenarios specific to the 4.x branch. Lastly, when installing the English language pack, the distro’s installer will now install a battery-enabled system by default, a feature that was present in previous versions too.
