The Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) development cycle is coming to an end and the project finally entered Final Freeze. This means that only a small number of particular fixes are allowed now, and the launch of the OS is only one week away.
Ubuntu developers are preparing for another launch party on October 22. The OS is almost ready to be shipped, and its makers are dealing with some of the issues that haven’t been corrected yet. This step in the cycle happens every six months, and it’s not something special, but it does tell us that things are about to be wrapped up. Even so, if something really important needs to be changed, that will happen even with the Final Freeze in place.
Ubuntu 15.10 is an intermediary release, and it will be supported for the next nine months. Soon after the launch of the OS, the developers will already build the first imagines for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and the cycle will begin once more.

“As of nowish, wily has entered the Final Freeze period in preparation for the final release of Ubuntu 15.10 next week. The current uploads in the queue will be reviewed and either accepted or rejected as appropriate by pre-freeze standards, but anything from here on should fit two broad categories: 1) Release critical bugs that affect ISOs, installers, or otherwise can’t be fixed easily post-release. 2) Bug fixes that would be suitable for post-release SRUs, which we may choose to accept, reject, or shunt to -updates for 0-day SRUs on a case-by-base basis,” said Adam Conrad from the Ubuntu Release Team.
