Ubuntu 14.04 Will Upgrade Python to 3.4

Posted on March 22, 2014 by Syauqi Wiryahasana
Ubuntu developers are considering the removal of Python 3.3 from Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr), especially now that the new Python 3.4 has been officially released. Unlike other libraries in the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) repository, the Python library is actually a very important one and a lot of applications depend on it. python “Python 3.3.5 was released on March 8, 2014 and was retroactively declared the last bug fix release for Python 3.3. It now enters security-only mode for the duration of its lifecycle. I think it's better overall for us to drop Python 3.3 from Trusty and support only Python 3.4 for the LTS. We will need to identify Python 3 extension module packages and rebuild them to reduce their size,” said Ubuntu developer Barry Warsaw on the official mailing list. As it was to be expected, a number of problems will surface if the switch to the new Python library is made, and the Ubuntu developer said that there might be some conflicts along the line, which will be solved appropriately. Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) is expected to arrive on April 17, and the developers are working hard to implement the latest packages available. via Softpedia
