Christian Hergert had the great pleasure of announcing the release and immediate availability for download of his powerful GNOME Builder 3.18 open-source integrated development environment tool for GNOME app developers.
According to the internal changelog, GNOME Builder 3.18 adds all sorts of new features and improvements, among which we can mention the addition of a vsdo fallback on GNU/Linux platforms, as well as the implementation of a simple Goto Line popover, which can be activated with the Ctrl+I keyboard shortcut in Gedit mode.
Additionally, GNOME Builder 3.18 disabled the device manager and MinGW plugins by default, implements the Shift+K keyboard shortcut in the editor to request documentation while in Vim mode, adds the Ctrl+Alt+O keyboard shortcut for enabling the global search function in the Gedit mode, and it now displays more search results by default.
Among other interesting changes, we can mention that the progress bar will no longer appear in search results, disabled plugins will be grayed out by default, symbol-tree’s cache timeout will now use milliseconds, size adjustments are now being ignored when not using the floating bar, and the search entry has been updated to accept smaller sizes of text.
“Builder is an IDE for writing GNOME-based software. We have marked the mingw and device manager plugins as experimental because they are not implemented to the point of being useful. We suggest that packagers do not ship them as part of the 3.18.0 release,” says Christian Hergert.
Distributed as part of GNOME 3.18
GNOME Builder 3.18 also fixes some of the most annoying issues that have been reported by users since the previous version of the software. Among the most important issues addressed in this release, we can mention a popover bug that occurred when attempting to clear the search text, and a crash in the editor.
As expected, the GNOME Builder 3.18 IDE (Integrated Development Environment) will be distributed as part of the soon-to-be-released GNOME 3.18 desktop environment, but as a separate package, which you can also install on a different open-source desktop, such as Xfce, Unity, LXDE, and even KDE if all of the software’s dependencies are installed.
