The Ubuntu developers have informed us earlier about the results of the Ubuntu Kernel Team meeting that took place on September 22, 2015, as well as about the fact that Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) has entered the Final Beta freeze.
The good news we want to share with you today is that the kernel packages of the anticipated Ubuntu 15.10 operating system have been rebased on the recently announced Linux kernel 4.2.1, as part of Ubuntu Kernel Team’s promise to track the Linux 4.2 branch of the kernel for the Wily Werewolf cycle.
Therefore, the kernel packages of Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) have been updated from version 4.2.0-7.7 to version 4.2.0-11.13, and uploaded to the wily-proposed repositories. Most probably, this is the version that will ship with the final build of the Ubuntu 15.10 operating system, due for release in exactly one month from today, on October 22, 2015.
“Our Wily kernel has been rebased to stable v4.2.1 and uploaded to wily-proposed, ie 4.2.0-11.13. We will continue to track 4.2 for the remainder of the 15.10 cycle. As a reminder, we are approaching Wily Kernel Freeze on Oct 8, ~2 weeks away,” says Joseph Salisbury. “If there are any patches which need to land for 15.10, please get them submitted soon. Following the Kernel Freeze deadline, all patches are subject to our SRU policy.”
Final Beta Freeze now in effect, Kernel Freeze coming on October 8
While Canonical’s Adam Conrad has just notified developers that Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) Final Beta Freeze is now in effect, Ubuntu devs working on patching the kernel packages for the distribution are being informed that the Kernel Freeze will be in effect starting October 8, 2015.
