After introducing the Black Lab Appliance Server, Roberto J. Dohnert from Black Lab Software had the great pleasure of informing us earlier today about the immediate availability of the Black Lab Linux Server 7 operating system.
Being based on the latest long-term supported version of Ubuntu Linux, Black Lab Linux Server 7 is a huge release that uses Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr)’s Linux kernel 3.19 packages and has been designed for the cloud, allowing users to easily deploy various cloud services like OpenStack and ownCloud.
Additionally, Black Lab Linux Server 7 lets users host web applications through terminal services, and it is the only Ubuntu- and Debian-based server-oriented operating system certified through Canonical to run the Juju cloud orchestration tool on the 64-bit (x86_64) and POWER8 hardware architectures.
“We realize data security is important to our customers. We have instituted the Watchdog subsystem. Watchdog is a proprietary subsystem developed by us and it requires two admin level users to transfer data from the server to any removable drive. Any file that resides on that server. A virtual machine platform
By design, Black Lab Linux Server 7 is a virtual machine platform, which supports legacy 16-bit and 32-bit applications as well as FreeBSD, Solaris, eComStation, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows, 10, and Xinous OpenServer X virtual machines using the latest version of the open-source and cross-platform Oracle VirtualBox virtualization software.
The latest release of Black Lab Linux Server is capable of virtualizing mainframe operating systems through Hercules, which requires at least 32GB of RAM, includes a full LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) stack, support for Apache Tomcat and JBoss software, and it is certified for Red Hat JBoss Application Server, IBM WebSphere, Oracle Hyperion, Apple WebObjects, and Oracle Database Products.
Last but not least, Black Lab Linux Server 7 is certified on the HP Proliant G5 – G8, Lenovo System x3250 M5, Lenovo System x3550 M5, Lenovo System x3850 X6, Lenovo System x3950 X6, and ThinkServer TS140 Tower Server systems by the vendors.
