On September 22, Canonical’s Łukasz Zemczak sent in his daily report to inform us all about the latest work done by the Ubuntu Touch developers in preparation for the OTA-7 software update.
According to Mr. Zemczak, the day of September 22 was fairly quiet for the Ubuntu for phones project, as no significant features or bugfixes landed for the upcoming OTA-7 update, with the exception of the dual-building version of the Unity Scopes Shell component.
However, the most important piece of news that we want to share with you today is the fact that the Ubuntu Touch OTA-7 software update has been delayed for October 19, 2015, because of the seven-day Chinese Golden Week holiday.
This means that Ubuntu Phone owners must wait more than three weeks now to get the new features and bugfixes implemented in OTA-7. On the other hand, the release is close to the launch of Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) on October 22, 2015.
“Today was a quiet day – at least landing-wise. The new dual-building version of unity-scopes-shell has landed, but besides that there was not too many other rc-proposed releases,” says Łukasz Zemczak. “Currently the final release date of OTA-7, as already mentioned by Pat, is planned for the 19th of October – so later than usually.”
Ubuntu Touch OTA-7 features freeze now in effect
Mr. Zemczak also informed us that the Ubuntu Touch OTA-7 feature and string freeze are now in effect, starting September 22, 2015, which means that the Ubuntu Touch developers are not allowed to add any new features to the OTA-7 software update, but only to fix critical security holes they discover during testing.
However, the final freeze for OTA-7 might be delayed too, and so those who were not able to push their changes into the repositories for Ubuntu Touch still have time until next week. We will have more details on that and other OTA-7-related news tomorrow.
