Canonical’s Łukasz Zemczak is back from his two-week holiday to inform us about the latest work done by the Ubuntu Touch developers for the next major update of the mobile operating system, OTA-7.
According to Mr. Zemczak, the most exciting new feature that landed in the Ubuntu Touch OTA-7 software update is the addition of support for enabling unsecured Wi-Fi hotspots on demand, which has been implemented in the Ubuntu System Settings and Indicator Network components. Additionally, there’s a fix for issues related to the enabling and disabling of the bug-report functionality.
It appears that the Ubuntu Touch developers also try to fix the slowdown problems reported by many users since the release of the OTA-6 software update. For this, Canonical wants to get a developer that is dedicated specifically to getting to the root of the problem and patching it once and for all, which might turn out to be a very serious issue affecting more core components of the OS.
“I’m back from my holidays! Time to resume the daily landing e-mails. Big thanks to Timo for preparing weekly updates in my absence,” says Łukasz Zemczak. “We only had a few landings today, one being the fix for issues regarding whoopsie bug-report enabling/disabling. […] Another interesting set of changes was in the indicator-network and ubuntu-system-settings landing for enabling unsecure WiFi hotspots on demand.”
Ubuntu Touch OTA-7 lands in approximately two weeks
The Ubuntu Touch OTA-7 software update should arrive for BQ Aquaris E4.5, BQ Aquaris E5 HD, Meizu MX4, Nexus 4, and Nexus 7 devices sometime at the end of the month, which means that the Ubuntu Touch developers have approximately two weeks to patch serious bugs and also push some interesting new features that will Canonica’s mobile operating system more powerful than ever.
