is announcing that ownCloud with version number 8.1.3 / 8.2RC3 is already available to download.
What is ownCloud ?
ownCloud is A file storage, sharing and syncing service that will let users backup their files online, but hosting all the data on their own servers .
ownCloud is very similar to Dropbox, but the difference is that the data is stored on your own server, instead of somewhere remote where government agencies and hackers can get to it.ownCloud comes with a server package and client applications. The server package works on top of PHP, backing up and syncing data sent from the clients to a MySQL, MariaDB, or SQLite database. To install the server package, ownCloud comes with a simple to follow installation procedure, and once everything setup admins and users can login and start adding their files. This can be done via the client desktop and mobile applications, but there’s also a Web-based interface accessible via the browser. This interface lets users add new files, edit existing ones, delete older files, or view past file versions. It also lets them share files with other people via a secure URL and closely resembles Dropbox’s own Web interface. The admin also has access to a special backend where he can add new users and user groups, and tweak general settings related to the ownCloud server. This is the server package of the ownCloud suite. To sync data to the server package from your desktop clients, you’ll have to install them locally on your computer. These packages and their reviews are also available on Softpedia on their respective Linux, Mac, and Windows pages.
