Linux News Today: Kubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) Now Has Latest KDE Plasma 5.4.2

Posted on October 05, 2015 by Syauqi Wiryahasana

Kubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) is almost ready for launch, but it looks like the developers are still pushing some important changes even this late in the cycle.

Kubuntu is based on KDE, and its developers are trying to make sure that the users of 15.10 have the latest version of the famous desktop environment at their fingertips. Even if Kubuntu is well passed the feature freeze point, it looks like a new version of the KDE Plasma has been uploaded and it will be available at launch.

The funny thing is that KDE Plasma 5.4.2 hasn't been released yet, so it looks like the Kubuntu devs have jumped the gun, just a little. It doesn't mean that KDE Plasma 5.4.2 is not stable, just that it hasn't been revealed just yet. "KDE Plasma 5.4.2, bugfix Release for October, is already landing in Kubuntu Wily, to become Kubuntu 15.10 in less than a month," wrote the devs devs.

KDE Plasma 5.4.2 is a bugfix release, and that means that you won't find any major features in this version. According to the changelog, lots of new Breeze icons have been added, absolute libexec path configuration is now supported, binaries invoked by KWin work again, and the tooltip icon in notifications applet now works again.

As usual, you can download the latest version of Kubuntu 15.10 right now from Softpedia.
