On October 9, Douglas DeMaio wrote about the latest major snapshot released for the rolling-release edition of the openSUSE Linux operating system, Tumbleweed, which adds some of the latest software versions.
According to Mr. DeMaio, the openSUSE developers managed to push yet another huge snapshot for Tumbleweed, updating some of the most important open-source applications to their latest versions available as of October 2, 2015.
For example, the Git distributed version control system was finally upgraded to the latest 2.6 branch, the Mozilla Firefox web browser was updated to version 41.0, and the systemd init system was updated to version 224.
“Another large Tumbleweed snapshot was release this week and although the frequency of snapshot haven’t been as often as in previous weeks, the recent snapshot provides plenty of updates for TW users,” says Douglas DeMaio.
Tumbleweed is now powered by Linux kernel 4.2.1
Furthermore, the most important core component of the GNU/Linux operating system, the Linux kernel, was updated as well in the 20151002 snapshot for openSUSE Tumbleweed, this time to version 4.2.1. Linux kernel 4.2.3 will arrive very soon too.
There are several updates for the LibQt 5.5 library, and the GNU’s Autoconf Archive was updated from version 2015.02.24 to a 2015.09.25. Among other updated packages, we can mention acpid 2.0.25, BIND 9.10.2P4, and DAPS 2.1.3.
Last but not least, the openSUSE devs mentioned the fact that the next milestone in the development cycle of the openSUSE Leap 42.1 operating system would be the first RC (Release Candidate) build, which should hit the streets sometime next week.
While the openSUSE Leap 42.1 Gold Master will be internally available at the end of the month, the rest of the world will be able to update to the final release in the first week of November 2015, if everything goes according to plan.
