ClearFoundation, through Peter Baldwin, announced today, November 11, the release and immediate availability for download of the final build of the highly anticipated ClearOS 7.1.0 GNU/Linux operating system.
ClearOS 7.1.0 is one of the biggest and most important releases in the history of the server-oriented operating system, which has been designed from the ground up to be deployed on small businesses and distributed enterprise environments. The OS is derived from the freely distributed sources of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system.
Prominent features of ClearOS 7.1.0 include Samba 4 Directory, a drop-in replacement for Microsoft Active Directory, support for the Btrfs and XFS filesystems, better support for virtual machines, improvements to the Microsoft Active Directory Connector, a streamlined theme system, as well as updated anti-spam and antivirus engines, internationalization support.
Additionally. the IPS (Intrusion Prevention System) and IDS (Intrusion Detection System) engines have been updated, there’s now a Dynamic Dashboard feature, along with an event and alert notification framework. Moreover, ClearOS 7.1.0 is now based on the latest stable and most advanced build of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system, version 7.1 .
“ClearOS 7.1.0 Final for all editions has arrived! ClearOS now comes in three different editions: Community, Home and Business. All editions can be installed from the same download ISO, but each edition provides a mix of apps, support and services to meet different needs. This release is the first in the ClearOS 7 series and provides major improvements and new features,” reads the announcement.
Distributed in three editions
Another interesting feature is that the ClearOS GNU/Linux distribution is now distributed in three different editions, Community, Home and Business, each one containing a set of features and applications designed to meet different needs. However, the good news is that all of them can be installed from a single ISO image that you can download right now from Softpedia.
ClearOS users should also know that the operating system is now available only for 64-bit (x86_64) hardware architectures, as the team decided to drop support for the 32-bit platform starting with ClearOS 7.1.0. Also, please note that the ISO image is not a Live CD and can only be used to install the OS on new systems.
