Linux News Today: antiX MX-15 Linux OS Gets Ready for Final Release, RC1 Out Now with Debian's 4.2 Kernel

Posted on December 18, 2015 by Syauqi Wiryahasana

Just a few moments ago, December 17, the developers behind the Debian-based antiX GNU/Linux computer operating system announced the release and immediate availability for testing of the first RC (Release Candidate) build of antiX MX-15.

According to the brief release notes published on the project's website, antiX MX-15 Release Candidate 1 is here to fix mainly those annoying bugs reported by users since the previous Beta build, which was announced about a month ago, on November 24, 2015.

One of the most important changes implemented in the first Release Candidate build of the upcoming antiX MX-15 operating system is the replacement of the Linux 4.2.3 liquorix kernel packages with the Linux 4.2 kernel from the official software repositories of the Debian GNU/Linux distribution.

"Getting ready for final release. 32 bit version now available and the 64 bit version will be uploaded shortly. Many bug fixes and improvements since beta2. 64 bit version now ships with the 4.2 Debian backports kernel since some testers reported issues with the 4.2.3 liquorix kernel," reads today's announcement.

antiX MX-15 comes early in 2016

Those of you who wish to take this first RC version of antiX MX-15 for a test drive can do so by downloading the ISO images for 64-bit and 32-bit computers right now from our website, just please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, not suitable for production use.

According to today's announcement, it would appear the antiX MX-15 RC1 might be as well the last release in the development cycle, as the devs stated that they're getting ready for the final release, which should arrive early in 2016 if everything goes according to plan.

Also, you should know that the antiX developers are working hard on the antiX-15.1 operating system, which received a first Alpha build at the end of November 2015.
