Linux News Today: GNOME's Nautilus File Manager Now Displays Free Space in "Other Places"

Posted on December 16, 2015 by Syauqi Wiryahasana

The GNOME developers are working hard these days to launch the third development milestone towards the upcoming GNOME 3.20 desktop environment, due for release on March 23, 2016.

More and more core components and applications are released each day as part of the GNOME 3.19.3 unstable release, including the Nautilus (Files) file manager, which has been updated to version 3.19.2, despite GNOME being updated to build 3.19.3. However, Nautilus 3.19.2 will be distributed as part of GNOME 3.19.3 later this week.

We've managed to get our hands on the internal changelog, which we've attached at the end of the article for reference. Thus, we can report that Nautilus 3.19.2 displays free disk space in the "Other Place" entry in the sidebar, adds the new keyboard shortcuts window, and implements kudos data for the GNOME Software app.

Moreover, the developers of Nautilus have managed to implement a new functionality that automatically checks the availability of the PackageKit software, which is used for installing additional apps. Also, the new window GNOME Shell dash item has been fixed.

Those of you interested in taking this development release of the Nautilus file manager for a test drive can download the Nautilus 3.19.2 sources right now from Softpedia and start compiling the software by hand. Please note that this is a pre-release piece of software, not suitable for production use.
