Posted on March 27, 2016 by Syauqi Wiryahasana

The Nmap 7.10 free security scanner and network mapper software was announced last week with dozens of new features, but it looks like it already received its first point release.

Nmap 7.11 has been announced this week and it promises to add two new features, such as support for diffie-hellman-group-exchange-* SSH key exchange methods to ssh2.lua, which lets the ssh-hostkey NSE script to run on servers with support only for custom Diffie-Hellman groups.

The second new feature added to the Nmap 7.11 release is support for Microsoft SQL Server's TDS protocol, which has been implemented in the sslcert.lua file, allowing users to fetch certificates with the ssl-cert NSE script, or check ciphers with ssl-enum-ciphers.

Besides the new NSE features, Nmap 7.11 fixes a few issues for the Zenmap cross-platform Nmap GUI (Graphical User Interface), including a crash that occurred when the default window geometry, and another one that occurred when the date from a Nmap XML file was displayed.

Other than that, there's also a fix for a crash in Zenmap that occurred when the software was installed to /usr/local. A few days after the release of Nmap 7.11, the developers also added STARTTLS support for NNTP, as well as new service probes and match lines for OpenVPN on TCP and UDP.
