Today, September 17, Canonical’s Łukasz Zemczak sent in his daily report on the work done by the Ubuntu Touch developers for the upcoming major software update of the mobile operating system, OTA-7.
According to Mr. Zemczak, the day of September 17 was a busy day for Ubuntu Touch developers as they managed to implement several new features, as well as to fix more of those annoying bugs that have been reported by users since the Ubuntu Touch OTA-6 update.
Among the most interesting things added to Canonical’s Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system, we can mention a new version of the next-generation Unity 8 interface, updated versions of the Pay Service and Unity Scopes Click components, a fix for a regression introduced by the libusermetrics library, as we reported yesterday.
“Today was a more lively day in the landing world,” says Łukasz Zemczak, Foundations Team at Canonical. “There already is a fix for the regression (in the Unity8 code for now), but since the closest ETA of it landing is tomorrow we decided that we will revert and re-release once the fix is out.”
Investigation of the Ubuntu Phone slowness issues continues
In addition to the features mentioned above, there’s also a lot of work done for the convergence, some changes landed for the Ubuntu Touch seed, and many other small under-the-hood improvements, bugfixes, code cleanup and optimizations. More work will be done in the coming days, as Ubuntu Touch OTA-7 is expected by the end of the month.
Unfortunately, the slowness issues that have been reported by numerous Ubuntu Phone owners are still under heavy investigation and have not been fixed yet. The Ubuntu Touch developers are working very hard these days to patch those issues, but there’s no news if they can be fixed in the OTA-7 software update.
