After publishing details about the last Release Candidate builds of the Manjaro Linux Xfce 15.09 and Manjaro Linux KDE 15.09 distributions, Philip Müller had the pleasure of announcing a few minutes ago, September 18, the immediate availability for download and testing of the second Alpha build of Manjaro Linux Xfce 15.12.
As we reported last week, when the first Alpha build of Manjaro Linux Xfce 15.12 was announced, the biggest feature of the release is the integration of the anticipated Calamares 2.0 graphical installer, replacing the Thus graphical installer that is currently used in the soon-to-be-released Manjaro Linux Xfce 15.09 operating system. In Manjaro Linux Xfce 15.12 Alpha 2, the developers managed to add the ability to re-use each of Calamares’ modules in multiple instances via different configurations.
“We will reach our second version of Calamares in early fall 2015. The Calamares team worked hard to approach this. One big change is now: you can re-use each module in several instances by using different configurations,” says Philip Müller. “We now use kpmcore library for the partitioning tool. Some effort will result in luks support for encrypting your installations. Also more and more distro-specific modules got added.”
Manjaro Linux Xfce 15.09 is around the corner
While Manjaro Linux Xfce 15.12 has just entered development, we should be getting our PCs ready for the Manjaro Linux 15.09 release, which will be announced very soon, most probably this weekend. Manjaro Linux 15.09 is a replacement for the current stable release of the OS, Manjaro Linux 0.8.13.1, and all users should upgrade as soon as possible. There will be two editions of the Manjaro Linux 15.09 operating system, one with KDE Plasma 5.4 and another one built around the Xfce 4.12 desktop environment.
Philip Müller and the Manjaro Development Team invite users to test the second Alpha build of the next major release of the Manjaro Linux Xfce operating system, version 15.12, due for release sometime at the end of the year.
