Steven Shiau, the creator of the GParted Live and Clonezilla Live projects, has had the pleasure of announcing the release of a new testing version for his Clonezilla Live GNU/Linux distribution.
As you might know, Clonezilla Live is a tiny Linux kernel-based operating system that runs in live mode and helps system administrators with disk imaging and partition cloning operations. It is built around the Clonezilla command-line utility, hence the name.
According to the internal changelog, which we’ve attached at the end of the article for reference, Clonezilla Live 2.4.3-3 is now available for download and testing (see download link at the end of the article), and it upgrades the underlying GNU/Linux operating system based on the latest Debian Sid software repositories as of November 16, 2015.
Some new tools have been added in Clonezilla Live 2.4.3-3, including Fancontrol (part of the lm_sensors package), which can be used to control the speed and sound of PC’s CPU and/or case fans, as well as nilfs-tools for managing the NILFS2 file system, which is now officially supported in the distribution.
Clonzilla, Partclone, and DRBL get new versions
In addition to the new packages, some core components of the Clonezilla Live operating system have been updated. Among these, we can mention that DRBL (Diskless Remote Boot in Linux) was updated to version 2.18.2-drbl1, Clonezilla has been updated to version 3.18.16-drbl1, and Partclone has been updated as well, this time to version 0.2.86-drbl1.
Mr. Shiau wishes to thank Łukasz Stefanowicz for reporting an issue related to the FAT16 file system, which was present in the Partclone utility. In the meantime, you can download Clonezilla Live 2.4.3-3 right now from Softpedia, where it is distributed as Live ISO images for the 64-bit, 32-bit PAE, and 32-bit non-PAE platforms.
Once again, please keep in mind that this is a pre-release version of the Clonezilla Live operating system, which means that it is not stable for production use and some features might not work as expected. Use it at your own risk and don’t hesitate to report bugs.
