The developers of the Arch Linux-based Apricity OS computer operating system announced a few minutes ago, January 28, 2016, that the first Beta build of Apricity OS for 2016 is now available for download and ready for testing.
Apricity OS 01.2016 Beta brings the operating system closer to a stable release, as the developers are fixing more and more issues reported by users and are implementing missing functionality that will improve its stability and reliability.
Among the new features added in today’s Beta build, we can mention better MTP and Samba integration, Vim interface enhancements, and the addition of multiple wallpapers contributed by the community.
However, the great news we want to share with our readers today is that the Apricity OS team has finally decided on what desktop environment to choose for the second edition of the open-source and free computer operating system.
Apricity OS Cinnamon Edition coming soon
And after teasing us with the KDE and Xfce flavors, which apparently are now delayed again, their final decision is to base the new Apricity OS edition on the Cinnamon desktop environment, which is a fork of GNOME 3.
“We will later create editions of Apricity OS with some or all of these desktop environments, but we believe that the second edition needs to follow the same philosophy as the first and appeal to a similar audience,” the devs explained.
We should have more news about the development of Apricity OS in the coming weeks, but until then, you can download today’s Apricity OS 01.2016 Beta release right now from our website.
Please keep in mind that Apricity OS is still in development, so we don’t recommend installing it on production machines. A first stable build might be available in the coming months, and we will announce it here.
