Frederic Peters was happy to inform Softpedia about the availability of the fourth development release for the upcoming GNOME 3.22 “Karlsruhe” desktop environment for GNU/Linux operating systems.
GNOME 3.21.4 is available for public testing as we speak, and it promises to give you an early taste of the features coming to the final GNOME 3.22 release this fall. A lot of core components and applications that are being distributed as part of the GNOME Stack have been updated in this development release with new features and improvements.
To learn what’s new in GNOME 3.21.4, we recommend that you study both the Core NEWS and Apps NEWS files, which contain the entire changelogs of the GNOME components updated. To compile and install the fourth snapshot of GNOME 3.22, you can use the jhbuild modulesets.
“This release is a snapshot of early development code. Although it is buildable and usable, it is primarily intended for testing and hacking purposes. GNOME uses odd minor version numbers to indicate development status,” said Frederic Peters in the email announcement received by Softpedia.
GNOME 3.22 Beta 1 to arrive after GUADEC 2016
If you are an ardent fan of the GNOME desktop environment, you probably already know that the GUADEC developer conference for 2016 is approaching, and it looks like it will take place between August 12-14 in Karlsruhe, Germany. As it’s now a tradition to name new GNOME releases after the host city of a GNOME conference, GNOME 3.22 has been dubbed Karlsruhe.
The development cycle of the GNOME 3.22 desktop environment will continue right after the GUADEC 2016 conference with the first Beta version, on August 17, which will be followed by a second Beta build on August 31. After that, the RC (Release Candidate) is set to arrive on September 14, and the final GNOME 3.22 release on September 21, 2016.
