Canonical’s Łukasz Zemczak has just sent his daily report to inform us all about the latest work done by the Ubuntu Touch developers in preparation for the OTA-9.5 hotfix update for Ubuntu Phone devices.
Some sad news today for Ubuntu Phone users, as it would appear the OTA-9.5 update will be delayed after all, as the Ubuntu Touch devs weren’t able to prepare all the bugfixes and features that they’d initially planned for this release.
The initial release date for OTA-9.5 was set for February 10, but it looks like it will arrive in the week after Valentine’s Day, as the Ubuntu QA team is busy with the testing of the incoming Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS (Trusty Tahr) operating system, due for release on February 11, 2016.
“Work on OTA-9.5 continues. As already mentioned yesterday we will most probably have to delay this release,” said Łukasz Zemczak. “We are still not ready bugfix/feature-wise, so we won’t be able to get everything landed and tested by the deadlines we set – too many complications popped up during the process.”
OTA-9.5 will be ready when it’s ready
The Ubuntu Touch devs now urge users to remain calm and wait for the OTA-9.5 work to complete successfully, saying that the general rule for a hotfix point release is “it’ll be ready when it’s ready.” Tomorrow, they will try to generate a preliminary RC (Release Candidate) image for the OTA-9.5 update.
Regardless, they reassure users that the update will bring a lot of convergence fixes to their Ubuntu Phone devices. Last but not least, sometime this week, the Ubuntu Touch development team will finally update the bq-aquaris.en mako custom tarball and migrate all users to a new channel just for their devices.
