Earlier today, November 11, Canonical’s Łukasz Zemczak has sent an email to the Ubuntu Touch mailing list, informing everyone that the team is working around the clock to prepare the OTA-8 software update.
Some of you might have noticed the fact that we didn’t write any articles this week about the features implemented in the Ubuntu Touch OTA-8 update, and that’s only because we haven’t heard anything from Mr. Zemczak.
But his latest email confirms the fact that the Ubuntu Touch developers are in the middle of the OTA-8 preparations, finishing the latest touches before they proceed with the creation of the Release Candidate images, which will be sent to QA for testing.
While there will be no string or feature freeze for OTA-8, Mr. Zemczak informs all Ubuntu Touch developers to stop pushing new things to the overlay during the next 24 hours, as the team needs to prepare the snapshot and the Release Candidate.
“So a note for all landers: today we will still only accept OTA-8 critical landings, with the overlay being fully unfrozen tomorrow once we prepare the snapshot and our first full release candidate. We apologize for the inconvenience.,” says Łukasz Zemczak.
Ubuntu Touch OTA-8 arrives on November 18
As we reported last week, Ubuntu Touch OTA-8 will be one of the best updates for Ubuntu Phone devices as it will implement all those cool convergence features that Canonical teased us with during the last few months.
Next week, on November 18, all Ubuntu Phone users will receive the Ubuntu Touch OTA-8 software update, which will transform their devices into something much cooler than ever before.
Just like OTA-7, the OTA-8 update will be available for all supported devices at the same time, including BQ Aquaris E4.5, BQ Aquaris E5 HD, Meizu MX4, Nexus 4, and Nexus 7.
