On December 4, 2015, Canonical’s Łukasz Zemczak sent in his daily report for the day of December 3 to inform both Ubuntu Touch developers and Ubuntu Phone users about the latest work done on the mobile operating system in preparation for the next OTA updates.
According to Mr. Zemczak, the most important feature that landed on the day of December 3, 2015, for the Ubuntu Touch OTA-9 software update is the addition of new versions for the Camera app and the qtubuntu-camera package. Both of them add things like support for disabling the shutter sound, as well as the ability to choose a resolution for the photos.
“We’re getting closer and closer to getting the most important fix for OTA-8.5 ready,” said Łukasz Zemczak. “That being said, OTA-8.5 might be a bit more heavyweight than originally planned as some of the fixes require pulling in quite a lot of packages along with them. This means that it will require a full regression set run by QA, essentially taking more time.”
Ubuntu Touch OTA-8.5 hotfix should arrive by the end of 2015
As you can see from Mr. Zemczak’s quote above, the Ubuntu Touch developers are still working around the clock these days to come up with fixes for those critical bugs reported by Ubuntu Phone users since the release of the OTA-8 update. These will be implemented in a forthcoming OTA-8.5 hotfix, due for release sometime by the end of 2015.
On the other hand, the weekend is approaching very fast, and there’s only today left for fixing bugs and implementing new features into Canonical’s mobile operating system. Tomorrow we should have more news on the OTA-8.5 hotfix (maybe a release date) as well as on the upcoming OTA-9 software update, due for release on January 20, 2015, if everything goes according to plan.
