Earlier today, November 25, Canonical’s Łukasz Zemczak sent his daily report for the day of November 24, 2015, informing all Ubuntu Phone users about the latest work done by the Ubuntu Touch developers for the Ubuntu for phones operating system.
We reported the other day that the Ubuntu Touch developers continue to push new features for the upcoming OTA-9 software update, among which we’ve noted improved versions of the Dialer, Messaging, and Address Book applications, as well as updates to Telephony-Service and Telephony-Ofono.
According to Mr. Zemczak, the day of November 24 brought even more new landings, such as a new System Settings app, new qtpim-opensource-src, and an updated version of the content-hub feature, which now lets Ubuntu Phone users to set custom ringtones on their devices.
“We also finally back-ported the fix for livecd-rootfs that adds the deb-src field for the overlay-ppa in our rc-proposed images – making life easier for developers,” said Łukasz Zemczak. “For more details on what landed, consider registering to our overlay-changes mailing list or checking out the list’s archives.”
OTA-8.5 hotfix might be released soon
The Ubuntu Touch developers are thinking of releasing an OTA-8.5 hotfix update, because more and more Ubuntu Phone users report bugs discovered since the OTA-8 software update. These issues need to be fixed immediately, before the Winter holidays, but it looks like not all of them have been resolved at the moment of writing this article.
On the other hand, the team of developers working on Ubuntu Touch at Canonical have started to migrate the mobile operating system to the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) branch, at a slow pace for now, and they are also preparing the OTA-9 software update for all supported Ubuntu Phone devices for release on January 20, 2016.
