The developers of the well-known Fedora Linux operating system have announced their plans to make the GNOME on Wayland session the default for the upcoming Fedora 24 Workstation Edition.
If you’re reading the news lately, you would know by now that Wayland is growing with each day that passes, and it tries hard to become the default display server on all the important Linux kernel-based operating systems, as a drop-in replacement for X11 (X Windows System).
If Wayland is adopted by default in the distribution, Fedora Linux will be a pioneer in the industry, but to achieve that for the upcoming Fedora 24 release, which should see the light of day sometime in May 2016, the developers will need your help to test every possible scenario thoroughly.
“But the plan’s not carved in stone. Fedora is leading edge, not bleeding edge, so we’re cautious about default options. To become the default in Fedora 24 Workstation, Wayland needs wide testing and user feedback in Fedora 23. And that’s where you can help us,” said the Fedora Project developers.
Here’s what you need to do
So, if you have decided that you want to help the Fedora Linux developers with the implementation of the GNOME on Wayland session by default for the Fedora 24 Workstation distribution, you need to login into the Wayland session on Fedora 23 and report any unusual thing that usually does not occur when using the standard X11 session.
When you find something strange that you think it might be a bug, you need to report it immediately on either the GNOME Bugzilla or Red Hat Bugzilla bug tracking websites.
