The December 2015 issues of the Linux Mint's monthly newsletter is out, bringing you the latest news about the upcoming features of the Ubuntu-based computer operating system.

Clement Lefebvre wrote the Linux Mint Monthly News – December 2015 newsletter on the last day of the year, wishing everyone a Happy New Year and stating that 2016 will be an exciting year for the Linux Mint project.

"I wish you all a very happy New Year! 2016 is going to be an exciting year for us," said Clement Lefebvre. "Many thanks for using Linux Mint. Many thanks to all the people who support us and help our project."

OK, so in January 2016, the Linux Mint team will release the final builds of the Linux Mint KDE 17.3 and Linux Mint Xfce 17.3 editions, along with the upgrade paths for users of the 17.x branches.

Immediately after, they will start working on the next major series of the Linux Mint operating system, version 18, which promises fantastic new features, such as a brand-new package base, new init system, as well as GTK3 support.

Linux Mint 18's focus is on stability

Clement Lefebvre promises that he and his team of skillful developers will try to concentrate all of their efforts on stability for the upcoming Linux Mint 18 operating system, making sure that everything will work as smooth as possible.

Another interesting change in the Linux Mint project, will be the availability of an upgrade path between the Linux Mint 17 and 18 series of operating systems, so that users won't have to reinstall everything.

Last but not least, the Linux Mint devs promise to revamp the look and feel of the entire operating system, something that should have been done a few releases back. Therefore, Linux Mint 18 will have a completely new look!
